October 10th Video Statement:
Kenneth Bae’s Mother Visits North Korea

Kenneth Bae’s mother, Myunghee Bae, has arrived in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to visit her son. She expects to be in the country for about five days. The goal of the trip is to encourage her son, who is imprisoned and has become ill.

She has released the following statement:

I am on my way to visit my son, Kenneth Bae, in the DPRK. I am grateful to the DPRK authorities for granting this visit.

It’s hard to describe the agony of the past year since my son has been imprisoned in the DPRK. I spend every day thinking about him and praying for his homecoming. I miss him so much! And I worry endlessly about his health and want to see and check his condition with my own eyes.

I don’t really know what to expect for my trip. All I know is that I want to see my son.

Thank you for all the prayers and support. Please keep praying for us and spreading the word about Kenneth’s plight.

Thank you.

Kenneth is a US citizen, husband and father of three. He has has been detained for the last 11 months. In May, he was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor.

Two months ago, Kenneth was hospitalized. He has lost a significant amount of weight, and his health has deteriorated due to his diabetes, enlarged heart and back pain.

The family asks that the US government continue the pursuit of his release, and also asks DPRK authorities for mercy, as Kenneth’s health is failing.
